A metal ouroboros ring is anchored to the ground within the Winden Caves, near the entry of 'the passage' or wormhole.

An ouroboros is an ancient symbol of a serpent eating its own tail. It is associated with the eternal cycle of life, death, and rebirth.

The earliest known depiction of it was found in a book on the sarcophagus of Tutankhamun, dating to the 14th century BC. Later Western cultures and ideas adopted its iconography: Greek magical tradition, Gnosticism, Hermeticism, and Alchemy.

"The beginning is the end, and the end is the beginning"
―Helge Doppler[src]

The Stranger tied a red cord to the ouroboros (the same type of red cord he tied to Jonas's bicycle) to help lead the way to 'the passage' along with the instructions on the map in red marker to "follow the signal."[1]

Jonas found the ouroboros by following the red string with the gear/clues left by The Stranger along with the map that he found in Michael's studio, which finally led him to find the Sic Mundus Creatus Est metal door.[2]

Ulrich following Helge within the cave ends up losing him, but finds the ouroboros and is able to find the door to the wormhole due to the noises as Helge went through.[3]

Katharina also finds the ouroboros in the cave with the map and orb light she found in The Stranger's bag. She then follows the time vortex particles to the wormhole door and opens it, taking her back to 1987.[4]
