Jantje Friese is a German screenwriter and producer. She and her partner, Baran bo Odar, are the co-creators and showrunners of Dark. Friese is credited as a writer for every single episode. In July 2020, after the final season of Dark, she and bo Odar began developing a new mystery series on Netflix, titled 1899. However, the series was canceled after the first season, though this was not the end of their collaboration with Netflix. In February 2023, Friese and bo Odar were tapped as showrunners and writers for the Netflix original supernatural drama, Something Is Killing the Children.

She became involved in film and television as a student at HFF München (Hochschule für Fernsehen und Film München, University of Television and Film of Munich), with credits as an actress and production manager. She began her collaboration with Odar at HFF, where he was also a student.

She was the producer for '"The Silence (German: Das letzte Schweigen), which was directed by Odar and released in 2010. Based on the novel Das Schweigen, it concerns the investigation into the disappearance of a young girl 23 years after another girl was raped and murdered, and the lives of the suspects.

She wrote the screenplay for the 2014 film Who Am I [No system Is Safe] (German: Who Am I – Kein System ist sicher), a techno-thriller about a Berlin-based computer hacking group, sometimes compared to Mr. Robot. It was nominated for Best Screenplay at the 2015 German Movie Awards; it did not win, but did garner three other prizes, as well as the Bambi award for best German film.
