Gesamtschule Winden is the high school in Winden and a primary setting of Dark. The school has a multipurpose hall where public assemblies are held regarding the search for the missing children. Students and parents are seen interacting in its classrooms and hallways, and using its performance and sports facilities.

In 2019 and 2020, all of the non-adult characters except Elisabeth Doppler and Yasin Friese are enrolled there, and Katharina Nielsen, herself a graduate, serves as its principal.

Behind the scenesEdit

A state gesamtschule, found in some parts of Germany, is a non-selective secondary school for children between the ages of about 10 to 16 (5th to 10th grade) offering multiple educational tracks. It roughly corresponds in this way to what is known as a comprehensive school in the U.K. or a public high school in the U.S. or Canada. Graduates of a gesamtschule may continue on to vocational training, apprenticeship, or college-preparatory continuation classes until the age of 18 or 19.

According to, Reise Reporter, and other sources, scenes featuring the exterior of the school are filmed at the Reinfelder Schule in the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf neighborhood of Berlin.
