DARK Still 104 - Noah's back

The Emerald Tablet tattooed on a man's back, later revealed to be Noah

Hermeticism is a philosophical and esoteric tradition ascribed to the ancient figure Hermes Trismegistus. Hermetic symbols, in particular the Emerald Tablet, and other references are prominent in Dark.

  • Noah has the Emerald Tablet tattooed on his back; Bartosz Tiedemann has it tattooed on his chest as seen with Noah in 1921 while working on the passage.
  • A framed print of the tablet, and another of Hermes Trismegistus, hang on the wall next to Mikkel Nielsen's hospital bed when he arrives in 1986
  • The Stranger's string wall includes images of the Tree of Life, a symbol with 10 circles connected by 22 lines prominent in the Hermetic Kabbalah tradition.
  • The red cord in the Winden Caves leading to the portal is anchored to a metal ouroboros. The ouroboros, a serpent eating its own tail, is an Egyptian motif later adopted by hermetics.
  • "Sic Mundus Creatus Est," found on the text of the tablet, is written on the door of the passage in the cave and outside the God Particle chamber in 2053, and is the name of the society of time travelers led by Adam.
  • The Kybalion, a book highly influential in popularizing Hermeticism in the early 20th century, is found among H.G. Tannhaus's things. In it, Elisabeth Doppler finds a 1921 photograph of members of Sic Mundus which includes Noah, looking the same age as he did in 2019 when he gave her the pocket watch.
